Defiance Tech, the Chennai-based engineering services company of the Hinduja Group, is set to establish an a centre in Bangalore.
It is also on the lookout for acquisitions.
The Bangalore centre would focus on aerospace for which the Hinduja Group has big plans.
Defence is also another area of expansion for the company, said Mr Subu D. Subramanian, Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Value proposition
The broad outline for acquisitions is value proposition; the Group has the money.
In the next three years, the company wants to ramp up its manpower to 5,000 from the present 1,200.
Talks are on with entities in India and the US for building competencies.
It wants to emerge among the top few providing a ‘global delivery model’, and not the usual outsourcing model. There are several players who provide ‘pure play’ engineering services, but not many who can provide the right interface across domains. This is what Defiance plans to provide, Mr Subramanian told Business Line in a telephonic interview.
In tune with recovery
Asked about the timing of the initiatives, especially in the context of the recession in the US and the slowdown in India, Mr Subramanian, who built the Automotive and Manufacturing Group at Satyam Computer, said “Everyone is talking about a turnaround and close of recession in the near term”.
“ So we will be in time in the next six months with our expansion and acquisitions in place to take advantage.
Also, large Defence projects from the Government are expected to be finalised in the next one year,” he explained.
Defiance would be an independent company, with its own board, and investment would come from the Hinduja Group, he added.
