Edtech startup Classplus, which offers mobile operating system (OS) to private coaching centres in India, has raised $2.5 million from Blume Ventures and Sequoia Capital India’s scale-up program Surge. Classplus, which has raised funds in a pre-Series A round, said CRED and Freecharge founder Kunal Shah, Xiaomi-Indonesia general manager Alvin Tse and Eric Kwan, partner at Locus Ventures, were among those who participated in this round of fundraising.

The Noida-headquartered company offers a mobile-first software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform allowing coaching centres to take their brick-and-mortar setup online. Currently, more than 3,000 tutors across 50 Indian cities use Classplus, the firm said.

“This fundraise will primarily be used to ramp up our technology. We are currently a team of over 150 and looking forward to bolster it across engineering, product and business verticals,” Classplus co-founder Mukul Rustagi said.

Launched in 2018 by Rustagi and Bhaswat Agarwal, Classplus helps tutors run their communication, payments, assessments and online learning programmes on a full-stack mobile solution that is also an online content repository. It is also a digital distribution portal for education content and products.

“At Blume, we are excited by Mukul and Bhaswat’s vision of a platform that empowers hundreds of thousands of tuition and test prep centres throughout India to better serve their students, thereby enhancing learning for students, and improving earning opportunities for these entrepreneurs, who run these tuition and test prep centres,” said Sajith Pai, who leads edtech investments at Blume Ventures.
