With the deal, Wassup announced its commencement of operations in Mumbai and is also looking to expand to 20 territories in the next 6 months. Mumbai-based Village Laundry Service Pvt Ltd, which operates laundry kiosks under the name of ‘Chamak’, offers low cost hygienic wash, steam ironing & wrinkle free packaging and claims to deliver the laundry within 24 hours. Village Laundry Service was launched in 2008 with seed capital from Innosight Ventures and is also backed by investors like Kensington Capital, Index Advisory, Calvert Investments and HNIs like Rajan Mariwala (Marico Group) and Sandeep Tandon (Angel Investor at Freecharge & Tiny Owl). Founded in 2011 by Balachandar R and Durga Das, Wassup (operated by Laundry Project India Pvt Ltd) offers services like laundry, dry cleaning, shoes and bag refurbishments in 11 territories currently. The company has 30 pickup points called ‘Aggregating Hubs’ where the garments can also be dropped off by the customer as well as where their delivery boys bring back the picked up clothes.
