Asia Healthcare Holdings (AHH), the private equity-backed single-speciality healthcare platform, is in advanced stages of discussions to acquire Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU), the largest single-specialty kidney care chain in India. AHH is likely to acquire about 70% stake in the hospital chain at a valuation of ₹500-520 crore, said two people aware of the development. Post transaction, the existing management will continue to run the business, said sources.
O3 Capital is an exclusive advisor to the transaction.
Backed by TPG Growth and Singapore’s GIC, AHH currently owns Motherhood Hospitals, the women & child healthcare hospital network; Nova IVF Fertility (NIF, the second largest fertility chain; and American Oncology Institute. Set up in 2013 by a group of doctors, the Hyderabad-based 500-bed chain has presence in Secunderabad, Visakhapatnam, Siliguri and Chennai. The chain has posted a revenue of ₹160 crore and Ebitda of ₹35 crore in FY23, added sources.
Mails sent to AINU did not elicit any response, while an AHH spokesperson declined to comment.
The cases of chronic kidney disease in India are on rise among the diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease patients. According to reports, around 10-15% of the Indian population suffers from chronic kidney disease (CKD) characterized by progressive damage and loss of function in the kidneys. Every year, over one lakh cases of renal failure are reported in India.
Apart from diabetes, hypertension, obesity, neglected kidney stones, and genetic kidney diseases; unhealthy lifestyle is a major reason for kidney degeneration.
Incubated by TPG Growth in 2016 under the leadership of former CEO of Fortis Hospitals Vishal Bali, AHH has invested about $300 million across single specialty healthcare enterprises in oncology, mother & child care, and fertility. AHH was launched in 2016 with the acquisition of Cancer Treatment Services International (CTSI), which operated one facility in Hyderabad, India. In 2019, Varian Medical Systems had acquired CTSI, which has 11 cancer hospitals across South Asia.
