Anthropic has recently held discussions with Fractile to buy the U.K. startup’s inference chips designed to run AI models more efficiently, The Information reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the matter.
According to two people who have spoken to Fractile leaders, the maker of the Claude artificial intelligence models has been in talks to buy the London-based firm’s chips when they become available next year.
Fractile, founded in 2022, is competing with startups such as Groq and Cerebras (CBRS) to develop server chips designed to offer better efficiency compared to Nvidia (NVDA) graphics processing units.
In December, Nvidia (NVDA) reached a non-exclusive deal with Groq to license its inference technology, adding the company’s founder, Sunny Madra, and two other employees as part of the agreement.
In February, Fractile announced plans to invest £100M ($137M) to bolster its U.K. operations over the next three years.
