Aircraft lessor Wilmington has moved the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to start insolvency proceedings against SpiceJet, news agency ANI reported on June 11.
The case will be heard on June 12 at Delhi NCLT.
In May, Wilmington Trust SP Services, along with SpiceJet’s two other lessors Sabarmati Aviation Leasing and Falgu Aviation Leasing, had approached aviation regulator DGCA for the deregistration of three planes of the airline.
It may be mentioned here that many aircraft of the budget carrier remain grounded owing to various reasons.
The NCLT, in May, had issued a notice to the Ajay Singh-promoted private carrier on a petition filed by an aircraft lessor seeking initiation of insolvency resolution proceedings.
SpiceJet owns a total of 67 aircraft in its fleet comprising Boeing 737, B737 Max and regional jets Bombardier-Q400. Out of them, 37 were in operations and 30 were not in service as in early May, ANI reported citing data from an aircraft tracking website.
