Biopharma company Biocon’s CEO Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said in Bangalore on Monday that she would invest in the healthcare centres of Uttar Pradesh and encourage entrepreneurs in the biotech space, especially the startups, to work in the state.

During a road show organized by UP government in Bengaluru on Monday as a precursor to the investors’ summit in February 2018, Majumdar-Shaw met UP’s industrial development minister Satish Mahana and other senior officials from UP government.

“She said that a survey should be conducted in all districts of UP, including Gorakhpur, for starting e-health care centres under a pilot project. She further suggested that a campaign be launched to attract investors in the health sector,” said a member of UP’s delegation.

The roadshow in Bengaluru was the second of six road shows being organized by the UP government across India to build up to the main event in Lucknow on February 21-22, 2018. A separate session for NRIs will also be held shortly.

Mahana, who is leading the contingent, met industrialists in the IT hub and asked them to develop IT parks in UP. The minister informed investors of the various initiatives taken by the UP government recently to promote investments in the state, especially in the fields of electronic manufacturing and solar power generation.

“UP has increased the limit of start-up corpus fund from Rs 100 crore to Rs 1,000 crore. Exemptions have been provided in electricity bills, reimbursement of provident fund and a self-attestation system will remain in force as these were in force prior to introduction of the new policy,” the minister said. Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey added that investors will be provided with land, technology and other facilities to encourage their entry into the state.

“Project developers will be provided with ‘no-objection certificates’, full exemption in stamp fee and electricity cess for 10 years on purchasing ceiling land of at least 5.058 hectares. All solar energy generation projects will be given exemption from obtaining environmental NOC,” he said.
