The government today approved the proposal to divest stake in Air India and the Expression of Interest (EoI) document will be issued this month.

The Amit Shah-led committee, which met today, approved all proposals on debt transfer from Air India to the special purpose vehicle.

“All issues have been cleared today and the EoI would come out within this month. The committee has also approved all proposals related to debt transfer from Air India to SPV,” said a senior government official, who attended the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri and commerce minister Piyush Goyal.

The official, however, refused to give out further details on the issue.

He, however, added that the next process in the AI divestment process is to issue EoI.

The government, which has plans to divest 100% stake in the national carrier, has already transferred about Rs 29,400 crore into an SPV and the proposal is to transfer another set of debt and liabilities and sold the airline with about Rs 20,000 crore debt primarily on account of aircraft loans.
