Holcim on Tuesday said it had completed the purchase of French precast concrete maker Alkern, the latest acquisition by the Swiss building materials maker.

Alkern, which employs 1,000 people and has more than 50 production sites in France and Belgium, had net sales of around 250 million euros ($293 million) in 2025.

No price was given for the acquisition, which Holcim said would be earnings-accretive from the first year.

The acquisition is part of Holcim’s target to generate half of its sales from building solutions by 2030. In the first nine months of 2025, the figure stood at 37%.

Holcim wants to expand in this area because it offers an additional growth channel to its traditional cement business, allow more cross selling and differentiates its products from competitors.

Privately-held Alkern makes precast concrete items like pipes, curbs and paving stones which are used in infrastructure projects, industry and buildings.

“Alkern’s leading precast concrete offering in France, as well as its specifiable walling, flooring and water management systems, are highly complementary to Holcim’s portfolio and will expand our high-value Building Solutions,” said Dragan Maksimovic, Holcim’s region head for western Europe.
