Japanese technology firm NEC Corporation is investing $10 million to set up an analytics centre in Noida to strengthen its presence in the big data analytics market, with a special focus on telecom, manufacturing and BFSI verticals in India as well as the rest of the world.
The company is targeting more than $100 million in revenue from its Centre of Excellence for Analytics Platform & Solutions within three years. With this launch, the company aims to be among the top three players in India’s big data and analytics market, which is expected to grow eight times to $16 billion by 2020.
The new centre will act as a one-stop shop for both customers and partners in telecom, retail, BFSI and manufacturing sectors. It will initially focus on markets including India, Japan, Singapore, Philippines and Hong Kong, and then gradually expand services throughout APAC and other regions.
“We are creating strong partner ecosystem to support customers in India and Asia-Pacific region… India is a focus market for us. Given the need, it is a right time to be in this space,” Tomoyasu Nishimura, senior vice president of system platform business units at NEC, told ET. While the centre will kick off operations with 30 people, the company plans to hire 70 more employees.
Nishimura said that the company is looking at alliances with universities to get fresh talent on board.
“The centre will leverage the computational power and scalability of NEC’s specialised hardware for big data and analytics in order to flexibly handle the ever increasing demand for storage and computation by Hadoop,” the company said.
The big data and analytics market is expected to reach $210 billion by 2020. Hadoop alone is expected to reach $50.2 billion by 2020. With the industry already facing a shortage in talent, specifically in Hadoop and analytics areas, the establishment of the COE-APS will help NEC leverage India’s strong talent base, the company said.
“Our solution is a mix of hardware and software, which coupled with consulting services will act as a one-stop-shop for customers in India,” Nishimura said.
