S4 Ind buys Carlisle Publishing

Chennai-based S4 Ind Software has acquired US-based Carlisle Publishing Services for $3.5 million.

The newly formed company post-merger of S4 Ind and Carlisle, will be called S4Carlisle Publishing Services, which will create an international network to carry out publishing and pre-press services.

Srinaath Krishnamachari, chief executive officer, S4Carlisle, said that the acquisition of Carlisle would bring in new expertise to enable a wide range of development, project management, design, pre-press and electronics services for the publishing community worldwide.

S4 Ind Software was founded in 2000 and has grown into a leading player in pre-press services. The merged entity, S4Carlisle will have experienced staff specialising in book and journal production.

The company has been using what it calls the ‘XML first’ coding structure, which can enable tagged text files to be reused for a variety of purposes, ranging from companion websites and CD-RoMs to directories, encylopaedia and loose-leaf publications.

With employee strength in Chennai touching 225, and 75 employees in the US, the company expects to post fiscal 2008 revenues of $8 million, and $25 million by year 2012.
