Tata Class Edge ties up with Knewton

Industry:    2016-01-13

Tata ClassEdge, a provider of technology-based learning solutions for schools, has announced a partnership with Knewton, one of the world’s leading adaptive learning company, and the launch of Cosmos, an integrated suite of products. This partnership will help schools provide customised learning tools for each student. Tata ClassEdge, a division of Tata Industries, was created in 2011 out of Tata Interactive Systems – a large player in eLearning and simulations, with the aim of innovatively using technology to improve learning outcomes for children. Here, Cosmos includes a mobile-based parent app, home access to students via tablets/web and a value education curriculum in addition to the existing classroom, planning and assessment solutions. Nirav Khambhati, CEO of Tata ClassEdge, said that they have added technology to participate in the teaching process. He added that Cosmos would also improve the effectiveness of education systems in India and to empower teachers, students and parents. Jose Ferreira, Founder and CEO of Knewton, added that they have a proven track record of significantly improving student outcomes and the partnership with the Tata group will help bring high-quality adaptive content to students across India. Parents will also get a detailed analysis of their child’s academic performance with actionable feedback, instead of just knowing their child’s scores. Here, the application School Connect designed for parents aims to enhance parent involvement through simplified communication and transactions. Fernando Rodriguez-Villa, Senior Manager Business Development, Knewton said that they will be able to help in creating personalised education tools for millions of school-going children in the country. He added that this is their first such partnership in India. For students, ClassEdge After School application has been created to improve their individual learning outcomes. Khambhati explained that this creates a personalized learning experience for the students by allowing them to continue their learning outside the classroom. He added that if a student needs additional help in any particular subject or area, they can use this solution to revise and test themselves at home, at their own pace. Tata ClassEdge offers solutions across 1300 plus schools in India and this also includes about 150 government schools. Rodriguez-Villa explained that while the product will look and feel like a Tata ClassEdge product, the infrastructure and intelligence layer behind the product will be offered by Knewton. The technology is currently being run in pilot batches across India and will be made available to schools enabled with Tata ClassEdge technologies by April 2016. Knewton is an adaptive learning company that has set up a platform to personalise educational content. Learning companies can use Knewton Enterprise to build or enhance adaptive learning products across grade levels and subject areas.
