Industry:    2020-12-24

Tata Communications has acquired a majority equity stake of 58.1% in Oasis Smart SIM Europe SAS (Oasis), a France-headquartered embedded-SIM (eSIM) technology provider, which will help the telecom company provide better offerings to its enterprise customers globally.

The acquisition also comes at a time when Tata Comm is betting big on IoT and has to stay ahead of competition from telecom operators in the enterprise segment.

“Enterprises are increasingly relying on mobile devices to operate and access data in the cloud. This coupled with the rise in the number of M2M connections globally show that there is immense opportunity in the eSIM market,” Tri Pham, Chief Strategy Officer, Tata Communications, said in a statement Wednesday.

“Through this investment, we will focus on the software layer of the Tata Communications MOVE portfolio and drive further innovation in eSIM technology through product roadmap R&D,” the company said.

Tata Communications ‘ MOVE offers IoT and connectivity solutions across 200 countries and territories. Since its launch in February 2017, the platform has been adopted by businesses worldwide to introduce a range of innovative mobile and IoT services, across automotive, manufacturing, aviation, supply chain and other industries.

Post this acquisition, enterprise customers will have access to a secure, complete end-to-end mobility platform. According to reports, by 2025, there will be two billion eSIM-enabled devices shipped.

This also comes on the back of importance given to security where e-SIMs facilitate secure, reliable, and cost-efficient cellular connectivity for IoT and M2M applications.
